An example of a small online store:
XenoSOUPS™

Having an online store means 24/7 revenue. You don’t have to be physically present to sell products or services, and you can have customers in any time zone browse your store and place orders without having to rouse you from bed. There is absolutely no drawback to having an online store as a stand-alone business, or in tandem with a brick-and-mortar store.

If you’ve got physical products, digital products (ebooks), or services (coaching, consulting) to sell, I’ve got a solution for you. If you want to sell one service, four digital products, or fifty kinds of physical products, I can build a store that fits you. (If you want to sell many hundreds of products, you probably want a bigger, more flexible solution than I alone can provide, but I’m happy to recommend options to you!)

I’ve divided your store options into small-scale and not-so-small-scale. If you’re having trouble figuring out which one is best for you, shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to help clarify things.

Small-Scale Online Store: Summary

Best If:

  • You have less than 25 products to sell, or you sell services or digital products.
  • You either know basic code to update your products online or want me do it for you.
  • You only need Paypal or Google Checkout as your payment methods.

Includes:

  • Hosting for one year + one domain.
  • A completely unique, original website design, optimized for SEO.
  • Complete setup of your website, domain, and host.
  • Transferral of your content onto your website.
  • Setup of a Paypal or Google Checkout merchant account and shopping cart.
  • Upload of product images, descriptions, and category structure.

Doesn’t Include:

  • A standard user interface to update/delete/add products. You’ll either need to know basic HTML or have me do the updates for you. I could also teach you basic HTML if you want to learn!

Not-So-Small-Scale Online Store: Summary

Best If:

  • You have more than 25 products to sell.
  • You want a super-easy, no-code-involved way to update and manage your online store yourself.

Includes:

  • One domain for a year.
  • A completely unique, original website design, optimized for SEO.
  • Transferral (and proof-reading) of your content onto your website.
  • Setup with Magento Go e-commerce software.
  • Upload of product images, descriptions, and category structure.

Doesn’t Include:

  • Hosting. The use of Magento Go software will be either 15$/month or 25$/month, based on your needs. I typically recommend the larger package for more useful features.

Additional Options

Either size store can include:

  • A blog.
  • Me updating your website and products for you, on an hourly-cost basis.
  • An art/photo gallery.
  • A forum.
  • Extra domains (typically 10-15$/year).
  • Proofreading and editing new content you create.
  • Extra graphic design for web, print, and photography.
  • Fresh, vivid, accurate content, written by me. See SEO Copywriting for more details.
  • A personalized tour guide to the internet, answering your questions and providing a little guidance just when you need it.

The Step-By-Step Process: Small-Scale

Note: This is for those of you who are detail-oriented and like to know in advance how things will go. It’s not required reading by any means, though it may be useful in helping you know what to expect when working with me.

  1. You have less than 25-30 products, or you sell digital products or services. You either know basic HTML, are willing to learn, or want me to update your site for you. If this isn’t you, check out the Not-So-Small-Scale option below.
  2. You answer a few questions for me, and we make sure all your desires and needs can be met by my timeline and skills.
  3. We take care of the technical details: choosing and acquiring your domain name (your URL), and setting you up with hosting. (I recommend the same host I use, which costs you 5$/month and nets you a free domain for life.)
  4. We go through the design process together to determine the look and feel of your site.
  5. Once you approve the design, we talk about content. I help you setup your product descriptions, images, categories, and other informational pages; I can also proofread your existing content and/or copyedit it for SEO strength. If you’d like, I can create new content for you, making it appeal to both your clients and the search engines.
  6. I help you set up a Paypal or Google Checkout merchant account. (It’s easier than it sounds!) This is where your revenue will be. It’s up to you to deliver your products or services, once you’re paid and notified of the order.
  7. Throughout this entire process, I will answer all your questions, explain things in your language (no overly-technical lingo!), and show you how to maintain and update your site (unless you want me to do it).
  8. We’re done! I remain available if you have further questions, and you tell the world about your awesome online store.

The Step-By-Step Process: Not-So-Small-Scale

  1. You have more than 25 products. You want to be able to update your store yourself with an easy-to-use interface, no coding required.
  2. You answer a few questions for me, and we make sure all your desires and needs can be met by my timeline and skills.
  3. We take care of the technical details: choosing and acquiring your domain name (your URL), and setting you up with Magento Go, the e-commerce software that will be hosting your site and making it awesome. It’s either 15$/month or 25$/month, which includes hosting.
